We have put her on a strict elimination diet, probiotics, EFA's, and topically we use a mild steroid cream and a vitamin B12 cream. Nothing has helped much except for the steroid cream and eliminating dairy. Two of her doctors diagnosed her with a systemic yeast infection, which has led to multiple food allergies (literally she is allergic/sensitive to everything she eats) and now she is developing environmental allergies. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has a child with the same diagnosis? What worked for you? She has been prescribed Diflucan(1 dose) and I am nervous to give it to her. I am always scared that she have an adverse reaction when taking prescription medication. else used Diflucan for their children? YES!!! My DS was also diagnosed with a systemic yeast infection. He was treated with DIflucan for 12 weeks, then Nystatin for 8 weeks. We keep him on a probiotic called Threelac. The treatment has changed his life! Do not be afraid of the Diflucan. It is extremely safe with almost no side effects. My only concern is that one dose is not going to be enough. Yeast is very hard to treat and usually takes months of treatments. My son also has the mass food allergies, environmental allergies, asthma, and horrible eczema. But, he is so much better now since the yeast treatment. If you saw some improvement on the Diflucan then I would say a longer round of it may be necessary. My DS was on it for 12 weeks followed by about 12 weeks of oral Nystatin. We also use probiotics including a specific probiotic to combat yeast called Threelac. For severe intestinal issues, I also recommend trying some fruit enzymes, they help to digest food in the stomach preventing gas and painful bloating which is common with yeast infections. You can get them at a health food store. They are very safe and they really help! I recommend papaya and pineapple enzymes, but you could check with your GI doctor to see if he recommends them. I would see if your doctor will consider extending the Diflucan or even try Oral Nystatin. Nystatin does not enter the blood stream like DIflucan, but it can really clear the gut.
